Curatorial Narrative In the early 1650s, Abraham van Beyeren was at the height of his career, producing still lifes that exemplified the opulent aesthetic of Dutch Golden Age painting. “Still Life with Silver-Gilt Glass Holder” (c. 1654 – c. 1660) is a prime example of this period’s fascination with sumptuous textures and luminous materials. Van Beyeren’s masterful brushwork imbues the painting with an almost palpable sense of atmospheric weight, as if the dark reds and golds are suffusing the space around them.
